TRAINING
Through experience I have learned that each dog learns differently. Patience, persistence and devotion to training dogs all play a major part of helping your dog reach it’s potential. Our dogs are competitors and avid hunters but have the ability to flip the switch at the end of the day to be that companion you want them to be. Please call 605-520-1990 for my monthly fee which includes birds - requires a 3 month commitment from you.
- Retriever Training/Hunt Test Training: Here at Highpoint Labradors we specialize in training retrievers for hunting and hunt test competition.
- Basic Retriever Training (2-4 months)- Basic retriever training is the foundation of all training and the training to come. After your dog has completed the Basic Retriever Training program, he will be obedient to verbal and whistle commands, deliver birds to hand, and doing simple doubles on land and water. Your dogs will be running marks out to 100 yards or more on land and water and will be reasonably steady to shot. Some dogs, depending on their progress may be started on basic hand signals. At this time, your dog will be ready for the field and to compete in a junior hunt test.
- Finished Retriever Training (additional 2-4 months) – Finished retriever training involves all the basic training listed above plus training for multiple marks, diversions and blind retrieves. After your dog has completed the Finished Retriever Training program they will be able to do multiple marks, take hand signals, and handle smoothly. This dog will be an advanced hunter and will be ready for the Senior level hunt test.
- Advanced Retriever Training – Advanced training takes the skills from finished retriever training to the Master Level of competition.
